Scottish Fiddle Workshop with Andrew McGarva

On Sunday 2nd July, Andrew McGarva returned all the way from Scotland to lead fiddlers young and old in a workshop focused on traditional Scottish repertoire and style.  Andrew has performed traditional music extensively around the world as a founder member of the ceilidh band ‘Coila’ and conductor of the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra.  The event was well-attended by JAM students and also fiddlers from our extended community.  During the day, fiddlers learnt a variety of jigs, reels, marches, strathspeys and slow airs, as well as the types of bowing and ornamentation used in this style of playing.
