Thursday 17th December 2015

For the Late Night Shopping on Thursday 17th December, we had a Busking slot on King Street for everyone to get together and have some fun and raise money for the Christmas Appeal. Four separate groups performed during the evening, pictured in turn are the Suzuki violins with Vanessa Moore, Brass with Pippa Lumbard, Fiddlers Folke ensemble with Julie Robinson, and flutes and saxes with Andrew and Claire Harvey.  Huge fun!

Pinewood Concert 16th Dec 2015

Tuesday 15th December 2015, 4.30pm

A wonderfully fun and whacky way to bring the year to a close for the youngest members of the academy, the Nativity concert involved all the children from the Toddler groups, KiddyKeys groups, Music For Little Mozarts groups, Wunderkeys, Reception and Key Stage One classes, and Suzuki violins.   Around fifty children in total took it in turns to perform in a range of ensembles, with the musical performances linked by young narrators Rebecca Arthur and Seamus Journeaux telling a witty version of the Christmas story.  The event concluded with a general sing-along and then a surprise visit from Santa Claus himself, with edible presents given to all!

Suzuki Xmas Concert

Sunday 6th December 2015, 3pm-6pm

An afternoon for young Brass players to have fun playing festive music!  This year’s Christmas Brass involved sixteen young brass players with a team of brass teachers, and the afternoon was spent reading through a wide range of festive brass ensemble music leading to a performance at the end to family and friends.

Friday 20th November

To help prepare for their approaching ABRSM and Trinity practical examinations, students were given the opportunity to perform to each other, friends and family at our Exam Preparation Concert.  Each student performed two pieces they had been working on, and with two weeks to go until the actual examination session they could find out for real which bits worked and which bits didn’t (!), with hopefully enough time to ‘iron out the creases’ before their exam!

Monday 16th to Friday 20th November 2015

Barbara Parham, Director of Violin for the British Suzuki Institute, spent the week overseeing the Suzuki VIolin tuition at the academy.  As well as leading lessons throughout the week, the final day brought together all the students for lovely group workshops (pictured).

Suzuki Violin Visit

Sunday 15th November

Professor Viktoria Grigoreva from the Royal College of Music Junior Department visited the academy with three of her students aged 13-17.  The day was divided up into various activities, in the morning two groups of four local young violinists had the opportunity to receive tuition from Professor Grigoreva in two 2-hour blocks.  During this time the visiting young violinists had the opportunity to rehearse in the concert hall with the visiting professional pianist Maria Tara sewicz.

We then held a buffet lunch for all students, teachers and parents to meet, leading into the afternoon concert in which the stage was handed over to the three visiting young violinists Sienna Bramwell-Pearson, Denis Sahnovics, and Mila Ferramosca.  A truly outstanding concert enjoyed by all!  We would like to thank the Jersey Arts Trust for their support towards our ongoing friendship with the Royal College of Music Junior Department, and look forward to welcoming Viktoria back next year.

August 2015

During August the Jersey Academy of Music flute group were invited to perform around the island to support the charity Music in Action. The group chose to visit a number of nursing homes to bring some musical cheer and entertainment into the lives of the residents.

We hope to be involved in more of these visits in the future to give something back to our local community.
