The academy’s summer music course combines intensive musical study with fun outdoor activities. This year is our 11th year of running this popular programme, and our excellent faculty of teachers and performers will welcome all for an unforgettable week of music and adventure! This course is open island-wide, and available for strings, brass, piano, percussion, flute, clarinet, and saxophone students of all levels aged 9-17. We also welcome complete beginners, and those who already play but wish to spend a week experiencing a new instrument!
Each morning from 9am-1pm music tuition takes place, incorporating one-to-one lessons, chamber music coaching, and group workshops. All students will also be involved in Musicianship activities, incorporating elements of Theory and Aural training. All students also participate in instrumental groups, with daily rehearsals and coaching sessions. Several concerts will take place during the week, involving both the teaching faculty and the students. After the music is finished each morning, students can enjoy a picnic lunch on the lawn before the afternoon’s activities. These will include:
- Kayak Expedition – Exploring the North coast cliffs and caves by sea with Jersey Kayak Adventures.
- Durrell Concert – An afternoon visiting the animals, leading to an early evening concert in the beautiful grounds of Durrell.
- Aquasplash – An afternoon of swimming and fun!

Jersey International Masterclasses will run again this summer, involving many visiting and local music college students, and working closely with Royal College of Music. Our goal is to provide world class education to students who want to learn from internationally acclaimed musicians and pedagogues. Our distinguished professors are experts in developing to the full the talent of modern-day, award-winning performers.
The Masterclasses take place in Jersey, away from the pressures of the outside world, students are able to learn and work in a relaxed, stimulating and contemplative environment. The classes are housed in the beautiful Jersey Academy of Music, Chateau Vermont – one of Jersey’s finest properties. Here students will receive inspiration, opportunities to learn, interact with other musicians, and perform. We aim to provide guidance in every aspect of concert and artistic life.

A wonderful day was had by all in our ‘Piano, Piano, Piano!’ project! All the piano teachers at the academy joined forces to create a varied programme of piano-related activities during the day. The morning focussed on Primary-age students, and the afternoon on Secondary-aged students, with each session ending in a concert for parents, family and friends. In each session the children were divided into groups, and moved around the academy from activity to activity led by Georgie, Morag, Tara, Grace, Sam, Chris, and Julie.
Each session started with an introduction to Pianology led by Georgie:
Which led on to physical activities outside, moving and stretching in the sunshine!:
There then followed a session focussing on performance ideas and presentation led by Tara:
Five pianos were assembled in one room for a ‘multi-piano improvisation’ workshop with Chris and Julie, exploring special effects produced from stroking and plucking the strings inside the pianos.
After breaktime, the children were split into small groups of duos, trios and quartets to learn new pieces for two pianos which were then performed in the concert at the end. Some very interesting and unusual performances emerged which were enjoyed by everyone!
We are also pleased to share some feedback we had from the day, many thanks to all involved:
I just wanted to thank you so much for organising the super ‘Piano, Piano, Piano!’ day. My son Jack Byrne absolutely loved it and hasn’t got off the piano since. It is so lovely to see him so enthusiastic about playing and wanting to practise, you obviously really inspired him. Please pass my thanks onto everyone involved. Katerina
