Apr 2016 – Lilla Akademien String Orchestra Tour to Jersey

11th – 16th April 2016

Our link with the Lilla Akademien (Junior Academy) of Stockholm, one of the world’s leading under-18 music schools based in Stockholm, Sweden, was formed through the 2013 Jersey International Masterclasses.  Following meetings in Stockholm in February 2015, the first leg of our exchange programme involved their youth string orchestra, numbering approx 30 players aged 11-15.

During their stay they performed several concerts, pictured here is the violin ensemble performing Swedish folk music at the academy, complete with movements and stamping!

The project culminated with the visiting ensemble joining forces with the Victoria College primary and secondary choirs, and selected string students, to create a massed orchestra to perform at St Helier Methodist Centre on Friday 15th April in aid of Cancer Research UK.  Pictured here in rehearsals led by conductor Mark Tatlow:

Our thanks go to the Lilla Akademien for such an inspirational tour, and we are looking forward to welcoming their Wind and Brass ensemble  to Jersey in 2017, and taking an ensemble of Jersey students to Stockholm that year also.
