Sat 30th March, 11am-11.45am

We have a very special event planned for  Saturday 30th March!

Children in Pre-School to KS1 are invited at 11am to watch a fun and interactive concert led by Flutasia, the academy’s senior flute group.  This concert will feature music and stories from some of the children’s favourite TV shows.

The children can bring a cushion to sit on and a favourite cuddly toy if they wish!

22nd – 27th July 2019
Following the fantastic launch last year, we are delighted to be running the Jersey Summer Music programme again this year.  The Jersey Academy of Music Summer Course is open island-wide to young instrumentalists of Grade 2 level and above, aged 9 to 18.  With our focus on ensemble playing, we will be creating new trios, quartets and quintets and bringing together larger groups to rehearse and perform.

Based at the Jersey Academy of Music, Chateau Vermont, this course is open island-wide to young instrumentalists of Grade 2 level and above, aged 9 to 18.  With our focus on ensemble playing, we will be creating new trios, quartets and quintets and bringing together larger groups to rehearse and perform.

  • Junior Programme:  Children aged 9 to 13 have an exciting and varied programme, with musical mornings and different activities every afternoon including Seafaris and Beach Activities.
  • Senior Programme:  More experienced instrumentalists aged 14 to 18 will participate in a specialised programme of musical tuition, with optional activities and concert opportunities.
  • Visiting Faculty:  In addition to the JAM teaching team, guests from UK specialist music schools including Trinity Laban Music Conservatoire will visit for coaching and masterclasses.  We will once again welcome trombonist Steve Thompson, pianist Hayley Parkes, violinist Damon Flanagan, flautist Abbie Burrows, and cellist Richard Boardman with his wife Justine for Yoga sessions!
  • Jersey Heritage: We are excited to be working together with Jersey Heritage on Friday 26th July 2019 to provide a musical finale to their Creative Castle week at Mont Orgueil. Younger students will have the opportunity to make their own musical instruments, and all students will perform in a ‘moving concert’ with performances taking place all over the castle!  All fully open to the public, should be a great atmosphere at the castle this day.
  • Guest Ensemble:  At the last course we all greatly enjoyed the London Vegetable Orchestra, and this time we wanted to do something different, alternative, and equally whacky and fun! So through contact with a Manchester-based organisation called Street Style Surgery we are going to be bringing over a…..Beatboxing-classical-violinist!  Faz Shah combines beatboxing with playing, incorporating a loop-station and Arabic folk music, and specialises in delivering exciting workshops to get young musicians to really push the boundaries of what’s possible with their instrument and voice.  Really looking forward to this!
  • Concert Platforms:  There will be many concerts during the week, including performing at Georgetown Methodist Church, and the Senior Programme students will also perform to the younger children on the JMS Summer Course during the week.

Visit the Jersey Summer Music website (click here) for further information, pricing, and application forms.  We look forward to welcoming lots of children and young musicians for a week to remember!

Thu 31st Jan 2019, 6pm

This event is open to all JAM students who have entered either the PwC Young Musician of the Year Competition or the PwC Junior Musician of the Year Competition, and provides the opportunity for them to try out their pieces in front of a friendly audience.  Free of charge with a retiring collection.

2nd/3rd March 2019 Artwork Workshops, then Jersey Arts Centre concert on Sat 9th March 2019, 7pm.

Around 30 JAM pianists of all ages are participating in this exciting project.  ‘Mikrokosmos’ (‘miniature worlds’) is a set of piano miniatures written by Hungarian composer Bela Bartok between 1926 and 1939.  The pieces are divided into six volumes, progressing from Grade 1 level right through to post-Grade 8 level, and are all short in length and of an individualistic and quirky style, often inspired by folk music.  Students will be learning their pieces gradually this term with the support of their piano teacher.

On Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd March all the students will participate in two Artwork Workshops, led by local artist Anna Shipley, in which they will create of a new piece of artwork based on their piano piece.

The following Sat 9th March will involve rehearsals at the Jersey Arts Centre in the afternoon, leading to a concert that evening at 7pm in which the students will perform their pieces with images of their artwork projected onto a giant screen above.  Fascinating!  The concert will also feature visiting brass students from Wells Cathedral School, who will be performing with JAM brass students led by Pippa Lumbard.  This promises to be an interesting and diverse concert, and tickets are available from the Jersey Arts Centre Box Office (tel: 700444).

7th-10th March 2019

Part of our regular link with the outstanding Wells Cathedral School, on this occasion a young brass quintet will be resident at JAM along with two teachers.  They will be delivering schools performances during the daytime, and in the afternoons and evenings they will be working alongside JAM brass students to create a joint brass ensemble, coordinated by Pippa Lumbard.  This will lead towards an exciting public performance at the Jersey Arts Centre concert on Saturday 9th March, 7pm.

Thu 21st March 2019, 6pm

The opportunity for all students taking ABRSM and Trinity exams this term to try out their programme in front of a friendly audience.  Free entry with a retiring collection.

Fri 22nd March 2019, 7pm

The Jersey Academy of Music will be hosting a Jazz @ the Chateau evening on Friday 22nd March 2019 from 7 – 9 pm. Performers will include an Academy Big band, Jazz Quartet, Saxophone ensemble, piano, strings, brass and percussion. This will be a charity event to raise money for the “Little Miracles” who support new born babies and their Mother’s in the Special Care Baby Unit.

The evening will encapsulate a fun and relaxed Jazz Club vibe with drinks and nibbles around various tables (so not a concert!). There will also be room for a little dancing should the rhythm catch your soul!
